Where does Lila B. Design source its plants and flowers?
After working for several years on a private, eco-friendly estate gardening, designing, and creating daily flower arrangements fresh from the beautiful organic gardens, Lila B. Design founder Baylor Chapman is committed to getting as close to “ green” greenery as possible.
Sourcing plants and flowers from local growers is relatively easy in San Francisco, with a variety of wonderful growers in the Bay Area and beyond offering year-round choices. Of course, we do sometimes use flowers flown in from far parts of the world, as their color and beauty are hard to resist, but we stay local whenever possible.
What happens to any “extras”?
We aim for no extras, or seconds, but sometimes we do have them. Occasionally we share them with family and friends, or donate them to those needing a pick-me-up. Feel free to call or email to see what we have in stock; we’re happy to sell them at a discount.
If they've lost their spark, they go into our green composting bins and then to the compost area, where they are transformed into wonderfully rich soil and mulch.
What is Lila B. Design’s style?
Natural, local, in-season, organic, wholesome — and sometimes edible! Our goal is to create the look and feel you desire, to capture your idea of what is beautiful.
How can I contact Lila B. Design?
Email baylor@lilabdesign.com or call (415) 563-6681.
How far in advance do I need to book your services?
We take reservations for large events up to one year in advance, but we can also work with as little as two weeks. And if there's a free day in our schedule, we are happy to work on even shorter notice — we recognize that last-minute events come up, and we'd like to help make them special.
Why do you work on both outdoor gardens and indoor flower arrangements?
While earning a certificate in garden design from the University of California, Berkeley, Extension and spending many years gardening outdoors, Lila B. Design founder Baylor Chapman discovered a love for creating miniature gardenscapes, or dynamic arrangements of plants and flowers — and this love is independent of location. Thus, Lila B. Design's dual focus.
